Consumers/EEE Users

DWYC LogoConsumers who want to find nearby collection locations for their electronic waste can go to an interactive website, www.dowhatyoucan.ca, select “electronics” and search for the nearest collection site by municipality, postal code or material type.

Whether you are an individual consumer or an industrial, commercial or institutional (IC&I) user of electronics, you may be unsure of what to do with your unwanted electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).

The Ontario Electronic Stewardship’s (OES) new Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) program will make it easier for you to make the right decision that is best for the environment and that will keep old computers, televisions and other electronics out of landfill.

The first priority of the program is to promote the 3Rs solutions (reduce, reuse and recycle). Residents and businesses will be encouraged to take electronics that are still useful to reuse and refurbishment organizations. Electronics that are at the end of their useful life will be directed to recycling/processing facilities that will be required to meet strict environmental, health and safety standards to ensure these materials don’t find their way into the environment.

VISIT: www.dowhatyoucan.ca.  You can search by type of waste, community or postal code. You can find out what type of waste a particular collection site accepts and what days/hours they are open.  The website also gives you lots more information, tips and an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page about the Do What You Can program and how it works.
