REDUCE,REUSE & REFURBISHMENT REFURBISHMENT Refurbishment involves the disassembly of electronics for the purpose of troubleshooting or internal testing and the repair of non-functioning or obsolete parts, excluding consumable items (batteries, toners, fusers, etc.). REDUCE There has been a dramatic reduction in the overall weight of electronic products in the years since the Ontario WEE programs began. Devices are becoming increasingly multi-functional and consolidated and manufacturers have reduced the size of microprocessors resulting in products that weigh significantly less. REUSE Reuse results in transferring functional electronics from one user to another without repairs or modifications to its hardware. Reuse activities can include cleaning, non-intrusive operation verification, replacement of consumable items (batteries, toners, fusers, etc.) as well as data and information clearing and software installation. 8 7
